3D Designed Sailboat

Introduction: 3D Designed Sailboat

The project I made is an easy and nice sailboat design that can be made by simply Tinker Cad and access to a 3D Printer.

Step 1: Designing the Hull

One of my first mistakes in the first time I printed this was to make the hole for the boom to go through the mast, too small. I re-printed this with a larger hole. The reason I made this mistake was because I had measured the hole in the mast by their numbers. You should always add an extra millimeter to the diameter of the hole for it to rotate smoothly. Another mistake was to print out the keel of the boat separately to the hull of the boat and to put a hole in the boat for the mast to go in. The plastic of the hull caved inwards.

Step 2: First Design Mistakes

The first step of building the sail boat is making the hull. To find a base shape i went on Tinker Cad and selected the "Boat Hull 1" in the featured shape generators section. I modified for the stern to be at 10, the mid length at 52, the bow length at 61, the depth at 20, and the beam at 20. This made a nice basic boat hull that I could base my boat on.

Step 3: Step 3: the Mast

The mast of the baot should be 100 millimeters tall and have a small ring around it to support the beam which will rotate in the wind. Next place a small ring below that support to tie the sail through. I don't recommend this if you have a slow printer.

Step 4: Step 5: Making the Boom

The boom of the boat is going to have to rotate around the mast like a regular boom and be held up by connecting the boom to the mast using a string. Your boom should also have a support when connecting the rod to the ring that goes around the mast so it doesn't break off.
