Hey! I got the chip from TME.eu, but they also have it at DigiKey, Mouser, and Farnell. You can get the SOIC8 adapter boards - that little blue thing the chip is soldered to - from Aliexpress. You need one to make the chip compatible with a perfboard/breadboard.
Absolutely! Dimming LEDs is quite easy. However, that's usually done with PWM, and that will introduce flickering that you may or may not notice. This is the reason I avoided adding a dimmer to the circuit. Though if someone knows how to dim LED strips without them flickering, I'd love to learn the technique.
