    As for the body shape, I don’t think it makes a difference to the process, a friend of mine decided to make a bass using his old neck and that helped him to save time and pains with the frets and everything. My advice would be to be careful about the pocket where you attach the neck because that’s a critical part of the guitar, you can use a router to get close to your final size but I would use hand tools and regular checks to make sure it’s a good fit and straight. It’s hard to route this part because you don’t have a lot of material to lay your router on, and you can’t use a router table because you ant see what you’re doing unless you make a jig.
