Introduction: Media Console Center
Are you wanting a new tv stand? A media console center is the perfect way to combine aesthetic and utilization! Any way you make it, media console centers consist of design and maximizing space.
Step 1: Create Your Design
The first step of making any woodworking project is creating a plan. Whether it is through a design program like Google Sketchup or on paper, drafting ideas with measurements is key to a good start on a woodworking project.
Step 2: Shopping Trip: Home Depot or Lowes
After having a definite plan sketched out, it's time to buy materials! While they're many components of supplys that have to be bought, I don't recommend buying them all at once. Believe me, there will be many trips made back and forth and back and forth. So, first things first, buy the wood! If you're on a budget, furniture grade wood will be an unattainable budget. I used 4x8x1/2 birch plywood as the body. For the top and legs I used pine common boards.
Step 3: Cutting and Screwing
As a beginner woodworker, my access to high end woodworking tools is minimal. However, I was able to make my project with a sander, J jigsaw, Mitersaw, screwdriver, Kreg jig, and many other little hand tools. At this point, it's time to get cutting! I used my jigsaw to accommodate all the measurements in my birch plywood. This is the time to cut all the pieces that make the body.
Step 4: Cutting and Screwing Continued
This can be one of the longest parts of actually building the structure. Wood glue, screws that account for the size of the wood, and a screw driver are vital.
Step 5: It's Coming Together!
As you near the end of putting the structure together, sanding (both hand and electrical) and plastic wood are another vital tool.
Step 6: Staining
This undoubltedly is the longest process of creating a media console center. Pick your stain, polyurethane, and get to it! After staining, apply a coat of polyurethane- this seals the stain and gives it a nice gloss. Three times you will need to apply polyurethane and in between each coat you need to sand (I prefer by hand) with 120-220 grit. And voila you have a finished media console center!!
