  • FIRST DIY ELECTRIC SKATEBOARD BUILD - 30mph

    JUst reading your build and am wondering: You probably paid a good deal of money for a drop down board with fancy graphics. Then you removed the graphics and added spacers to eliminate the drop down and replaced the trucks. Wouldn't it have been simpler to just start with a piece of board? It is a nice build!

  • 25¢ Ring From a Quarter (No Fancy Tools)

    I noticed you excluded a spoon from the tool list. Replacing the hammer with a stainless steel soup spoon gives good results with less chance of deforming the ring. Don't use a silver spoon as it will deform first.

    Tthe author is a better carpenter than electronics person. He wonders why his red LEDs blew out, but the greens didn't. Here's the reason: there is no means of limiting the current through the LEDs, which should be limited to 20 milliamperes per led. Red LEDs have a typical voltage drop across them of 2.2 volts, green LEDs about 3.2 volts. With a 3.6 volt battery, after the 2.2 volt LED drop there is about 1.4 volts available to push current through the reds, but after the 3.2 volt drop, only about 0.4 volts available with the greens. So way more current flowing through the reds. In theory, if the battery could supply enough current, the greens would blow also, along with transistor Q2. Solution is to add a current-limiting resistor in series with each LED, to limit the current throug...

    Very best glue for cardboard is contact cement. The spray on glues also work well. Water based products don't.

    Nailing before the glue is dry would substitute for clamps. I don't think that adding nails adds after the glue is dry serves any purpose - especially since you're using Gorilla glue. Using headless finishing nails would make finishing easier. I love your design for the box!

    Wearing floppy gloves while using machines that whirl is a bad idea. Seeing your table saw pics makes me cringe.

    I am trying to understand the connection to the bike. "You may need to drill a hole to mount the spring bolt so it fits over the head of the shoulder bolt. This is what holds the trailer to the bike without falling off." I don't understand. Perhaps "it" refers to the washer?"The plate held in the fingers in the third picture is drilled to fit your bike's rear axle. If you have quick release, no drilling is required." Is the plate only attached to the bike by the axle? If so, it would seem that there would be a problem with the right axle nut tending to be loosened by the weight of the trailer. Also don't understand why quick release would change things. Do we assume that the plates remain on the bike and the trailer is attached/detached from them? Probably...

    I would have considered leaving the pipes copper colored. They would need to be clear coated if you didn't want them to oxidize to a dark color.You might correct sauder to solder, but I understood what you meant. :-)
