I exported my gcode from Fusion 360; it's configured for a ShopBot router and a particular stock depth, so it's unlikely to work as-is on your set up. I'd recommend that you regenerate the gcode from the models themselves, based on your machine settings and stock material. The .iges model files should be loadable in most CAD programs.

This is fantastic! I remember having a snake like this as a kid too; this looks like a really great method for making it.
I could imagine making a guide for the hand-held router that lets you do a single pocket or a row of pockets, then repeating that across the board. It would be tedious to do by hand, but probably possible. If you use a light-colored wood, you could skip the inlays and stain the special-square pockets instead; or make an inverse guide to cut the inlays from thin wood sheet. And as ilpug mentions below, it would probably work to cut or sand down regular scrabble tiles to fit the radius of the pockets (or if you have a smaller bit than I did, you can get those corners tighter). I don't have a lot of experience with hand-held routers though; does anyone else have other suggestions?
Yep, you have to pick them out one at a time. It goes fast though, and considering my family's tendency to knock the board accidentally, it's nice for us that the tiles don't slide around.
Yes, great suggestions from SergeE and mole125. You can definitely use the CNC to make the tiles and inserts too. You can put a little bit of stain into the engravings to darken them up afterwards; the burning of the laser cutter would do that for you, but putting a coat of stain down then wiping it up off the top should give good contrast as well.
